The Regency: Auraria’s First Student Housing Community,

On Schedule to Open Its Doors for 2005 Fall Semester

DENVER, CO – April 28, 2005 – Auraria Higher Education Center students will have a new place to call home this fall as The Regency: Auraria’s First Student Housing Community remains on schedule to open its doors for the Fall semester on August 22, 2005. Located just two miles from the Auraria Campus off of I-25 and Park Avenue West, The Regency will offer a host of amenities and conveniences tailored to the needs of Denver’s downtown students.

The Regency: Auraria’s Student Housing Community will inhabit the historic Regency Hotel, formerly a 410-room luxury regional convention center located at 3900 Elati Street. Williams Construction Corporation, the General Contractor, has been working since January 2005 on the renovation of the property and has started updates to the plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems. In addition, installation of new windows, replacement of the building’s roof, and painting of the exterior are underway.

Denver native V. Robert Salazar, owner of Regency Realty Investors LLC, purchased the building last year and decided to transform the property into a community for Auraria’s students who currently do not have University sponsored housing.  “It’s exciting to see the construction progress and to start to see our concepts for the ideal student living situation come to life”, said Mr. Salazar.

300 beds will be available for occupancy at the start of the Fall semester. By January 2006 the North Hall construction will be completed and another 400 beds will be available for a total Capacity of 700 beds.

In addition to the progress being made on the physical structure of The Regency, Chartwells, a national company that provides University dining services, has been selected to operate a full service dining hall and convenience store. Students will have their choice of freshly prepared foods throughout the day and be able to purchase a variety of meal plan options, including pay-as-you-go.

Students at Metro State College, Community College of Denver (CCD) and University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) are eligible for housing at The Regency.  Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible, as long as undergrads are enrolled in at least six credit hours per semester for at least two semesters, and grad students are enrolled in at least five credit hours per semester for two semesters.
